ACT’s Integrated Voter Engagement project centers youth voices and their vision for the world they want to create. ACT’s youth leaders develop and commit to issue-campaigns that engage voters and their neighbors to create local policy change. By integrating ACT’s ongoing advocacy work and grassroots issue-campaigns with voter engagement, we build community power and increase our wins. This model also develops the leadership of the young people doing the work to engage and empower their community.

ACT has increased our visibility and identified voters who share our values of intersectional Reproductive Justice through integrated voter engagement (IVE). Between 2017-18, youth leaders led six issue-identifying IVE campaigns to turn out voters for the 2018 election (and beyond) in Tulare and Kings Counties. Some of these issue campaigns include a call to action for identified voters to call their congressperson to uphold the ACA, and identify voters who support a ban on toxic pesticides on their local school campuses (Visalia, Lindsay, and Cutler-Orosi). In 2018, youth organizers used the IVE tool to scale up their grassroots campaign to petition the Woodlake Unified School Board to designate their campuses under a “safe haven” policy to protect undocumented students while in school.

All identified voters throughout our campaigns are contacted to get out the vote during election seasons.
